Jammu, often called the “City of Temples,” has a history that spans over 3,000 years. According to legends, the city was founded by King Jambu Lochan in the 14th century BCE, who envisioned it as a place of peace and spirituality.
During the medieval period, Jammu became an important center under the Dogra dynasty, which brought political stability and cultural richness to the region. In the 19th century, Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder of the Dogra Empire, further expanded the region’s influence and laid the foundation of modern Jammu and Kashmir.
Under Dogra rule, Jammu flourished as a hub of trade, culture, and governance. Temples, palaces, and forts built during this era still stand as symbols of the city’s royal legacy.
Post-independence, Jammu became the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir, balancing its traditional roots with modern growth. Today, it is a thriving city that blends heritage, spirituality, and development, making it a unique destination for history lovers and modern explorers alike.
